I’m Airtree’s Risk and Compliance Manager, and I’m responsible for ensuring we comply with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards, as well as identifying, managing, and mitigating risks that could harm Airtree.
I have primarily worked in financial services at large banks and startups in the US, Europe and Australia, which has given me a valuable perspective on operational and cultural differences between big corporations and early-stage companies.
I’ve always been interested in the startup ecosystem, and I tend to gravitate towards early-stage companies due to the impact and influence one person can have on the growth of the business. My role at Airtree gives me access to some of the most exciting early-stage companies and founders in Australia and New Zealand, which is a position I don’t take for granted.
A motto I live by
Embarrassment is the cost of entry. Very few people are experts when they try something new for the first time, whether in a professional or personal context. Starting a new job or taking up a new activity is going to come with confusion and anxiety, but everyone has to start somewhere.
Why tech and startups excite me
The startup ecosystem excites me because of the constant progression and innovation that emerges. Not many people know exactly what’s around the corner when it comes to tech, and this is also the case for relevant policy and legislation, making my role exciting and varied.
Here’s where you’ll find me on the weekend
One the weekends you can find me at a music gig, playing sport, going to the gym, and hanging out with friends. I go to as many gigs as possible, regardless of genre, and I’m learning to play the guitar (self-taught). Unfortunately, I think the music Gods prefer me listening rather than playing. I’m also always looking for the next best Aussie pale ale, and can often be found trying to convince friends to visit an obscure regional brewery.
